The Crown Act: Celebrate National Crown Day

The Crown Act: Celebrate National Crown Day

The Crown Act is an essential piece of legislation for young Black men, whose hair is often a topic of discussion. The act aims to end discrimination against natural hairstyles in workplaces and schools, and has already been passed in several states. However, there is still a long way to go before the act is recognized nationwide.

One of the reasons the Crown Act is so important for Black men is that they have faced discrimination in the past due to their hair. For example, in 2020, Deandre Arnold was told that he couldn't participate in his high school graduation unless he cut his dreadlocks. Similarly, Andrew Johnson, a high school wrestler in 2018, was told to cut his locks or forfeit a match. These incidents show how Black men have been unfairly targeted because of their hair, and how the Crown Act is needed to protect their rights.

The Crown Act is a crucial step in recognizing and protecting natural hair in the Black community. It serves as an important way to combat discrimination, which has gone on for far too long. By passing the Crown Act, young Black men will no longer have to worry about being discriminated against solely because of their hair.

National Crown Day is celebrated on July 3rd and is a day of awareness and celebration for African American hair. These hairstyles have been mocked, attacked, and used to discriminate against people of color for centuries in schools and professional workplaces. By celebrating National Crown Day, we can recognize the importance of natural hair styles and show our support for the Crown Act.

Despite the progress that has been made, there is still a lot of work to be done to pass the Crown Act in more states. Whether it's writing to your local representatives, attending rallies, or sharing information on social media, there are many ways that you can make a difference. Let's work together to end discrimination against natural hairstyles once and for all.
